Description
This is a Buescher True Tone professional level alto saxophone from 1924. I have had a few of these over the years and this one is definitely a great one. All but one of the original snap in resonators from 1924, patented by Buescher, are still on this horn and in great shape. All the pads were recently replaced with Roo pads (I believe from Music Medic). All the corks and felts are brand new and this horn has a great feel under the fingers. It just feels crisp, especially for an older horn.Every note plays great from top to bottom. I recommend playing with a large chambered mouthpiece as it was designed for, but you can play with whatever fits your taste. I used to play one of these True Tone’s every day and have enjoyed this horn specifically quite a bit, and I think you will find it a well kept vintage saxophone.
The silver plating is probably 97% intact. There is some wear in the usual spots: under the thumb rest, bell key cages, some posts and rods, etc., and there is one key, the side C trill key, which has significant wear. I’m sure you could get that replaced if desired, but is merely cosmetic. The engraving on the bell is in good shape. There are minor dents, scuffs, scratches and dings peppered sparsely throughout the body, but nothing major is compromised on it. Everything is as photoed.
The neck is somewhat looser than normal before the screw is tightened up, but once it is tightened, it snugs up and is pretty good. It is still not quite as tight as may be desired, but it holds fine (this is also something that can be fixed if desired, but it is not necessary at the moment). The neck cork was recently replaced and the tenon has just been polished and cleaned. An original end plug for the neck tenon is also included to protect the octave key while it is cased.
The case is in great shape in my opinion. I have seen many of these where the hinges are barely holding it together, the latches have trouble opening & closing, and the leather handle is about to tear apart, but this case is still very sturdy, despite the age. There is obvious wear as is photoed, but the structural integrity of this case and the mechanics look to have much life left. The inside of the case is also still very sturdy and both compartments open and close very well.
All pearls, rollers, and keys are all present.
Serial Number is 160277.
