This is a genuine Bosch Mass Airflow sensor meant as a performance upgrade for M50 and M52 powered BMWs. It has a 3.5" diameter body, as opposed to the standard 3" size of the factory MAF sensor. This allows for more airflow to the engine, increasing power. A 3.5" intake boot (preferably a silicone performance one to get rid of the accordion design of the stock boot, which causes air turbulence) is required for installation and either a 3.5" shrouded cold air intake kit (recommended) or a 3.5" cone filter attached directly to the MAF are also required. M50 cars are direct plug and play, but M52 cars need the MAF electrical plug switched over to the M50 style plug.
