CONN SAX PRE WAR 6M VIII 1942 ORIGINAL LAC TO DIE FOR NAKED LADY TECH SERVICED PLAYING ON OLDER PADS AND MIX. ORIGINAL CASE AND EXTRA STUFF.
VERY LITTLE WEAR ON TOUCH AREAS ON SAX LIKE PALMS AND SIDE KEYS ETC. ALSO NON-EXISTENT WEAR ON STRAP HOOK. INDICATING SHE WAS PLAYED VERY LITTLE. SEE MORE BELOW.
1 THIS HAS HISTORY FOR THOSE OF WHO LIKE ORIGINS. THE SAX HAD A NAME TAG
IN CASE ( I PICTURED IT IN AD ) WITH:
DICK GRESLA 204 E 7TH ST MONROE MICHIGAN ON IT. THE SAX HAS A DESIGNATION ABOVE THE SERIAL NUMBER RG 28. I SEARCHED THE HOUSE ADDRESS AND FOUND IT ON GOOGLE MAPS.
THE HOUSE IS STILL STANDING. REAL CLOSE TO THE HOUSE IS MONROE MIDDLE SCHOOL. MAYBE THE RG 28 WAS THAT SCHOOLS ID ??? OR MAYBE IT WAS A MILITARY DESIGNATION. THERE WAS A RICHARD GRESLA IN THE MILITARY. IF ANYONE CAN GIVE MORE INFO ON THIS PERSON AND RG 18 MEANING PLEASE WRITE ME.
2 THIS IS AN ENGRAVING TO DIE FOR REALLY. I LOVE THE WAY THE EARLY CONN ( 1936-42 ) NAKED LADY 6M'S ORIGINAL LACQUER AGED. AFTER THE WAR IT SEEMS TO ME THEY CHANGED THE LAC PROCEES TO A LIGHTER TYPE THAT AGED WELL BUT NOT AS HONEY SWEET AS THIS ONE.
3 THE SERIAL 3077XX PUTS THIS AS ONE OF THE LAST PRODUCTION 6M'S IN EARLY 1942 AFTER WE DECLARED WAR ON JAPAN AFTER PEARL HARBOR AND NAZI GERMANY DECLARED WAR ON US AFTER SINKING OUR MERCHANT SHIPS.
SIX MONTHS LATER CONN ENTERED THE WAR EFFORT. ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA:
From mid-1942 to 1945, C.G. Conn ceased all production of musical instruments for civilian use to manufacture flat & mounted compasses, altimeters, gyro-horizon indicators, and other military instrumentation.
4 SO THIS ONE IS ONE OF THE LAST OF THE GREAT 6M VIII'S THAT WERE PRODUCED BEFORE CONN HAULTED MAKING SAXES/OTHER INSTRUMENTS FOR THREE YEARS !
5 THIS ONE IS PLAYING ON MOSTLY OLDER ( ORIGINAL PADS ) AND 4 PADS MY TECH REPLACED. THESE ARE THE BEST SINGING ALTOS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. ALOT OF MKVI GUYS HAVE STATED ONCE THEY CAME OVER TO THE VIII CONN SIDE THEY DID NOT PLAY THE SELMER MKVI'S AS MUCH.
6 I PLAYED THIS WITH MY BRILHART TONALIN MPC AND IT WAS FINE UP AND DOWN THRU THE WHOLE REGISTER. I AM RETIRED NOW BUT GIGED WITH A 6M VIII 1937.
IF YOU ARE JUST GETTING INTO THESE VINTAGE CONN SAXES AND ARE NOT A REAL PRO YOU CAN LEARN ON THIS FINE. OBVIOUSLY A REAL PROFESSIONAL MONEY MAKING MUSICIAN WILL WANT TO UPGRADE THE PADS TO THEIR LIKING EVENTUALLY.
7 I SEE NO REAL DENTS OR FORMER REPAIRS ON THIS SAX.
8 BELL TO BODY BRASS IS FINE ON BOTH ENDS.
9 ALL PEARL ROLLERS ROLL , ALL KEY PEARLS CLEAN AND NOT CRACKED
10 NECK NO PULL DOWN , NECK TUNER IS FREE AND ROLLING.
11 THIS SAX WAS NOT PLAYED TO DEATH. I THINK IT WAS USED FOR A WHILE AND RETIRED TO A NON DAMP STORAGE AREA. NO SMELL ON IT I COULD DETECT. AFTER HANDLING IT NO SIGNIFICANT BAD SCENT ON MY FINGERS.
12 CASE I THINK IS ORIGINAL
13 BOTTOM OF BOW NO DENTS
14 ALSO COMES WITH STUFF. 2 LIGS , LYRES , A LEATHER NARROW STRAP , A CAP.
NO MOUTHPIECE BUT IF YOU NEED ONE FOR A FEE WE MAYBE ABLE TO FIND ONE I HAVE HERE TO SELL TO YOU.
I TRIED TO THE BEST OF MY ABLITY TO DESCRIBE THE ITEM. I OWN THE BUSINESS OF THE SAME NAME AS HERE. MY REPUTAION IS PARAMOUNT TO ME TO KEEP AT A+. I AM AN HONEST SELLER SEE MY FEEDBACK AND OTHER ITEMS
