Provides insight into Cash’s career
This piece measures approximately 18" x 27"
Johnny Cash was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Although he is primarily remembered as a country music artist, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll—especially early in his career—as well as blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal led to Cash being inducted in both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice; for the "boom-chicka-boom" freight train sound of his Tennessee Three backing band; for his rebelliousness, coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor; for providing free concerts inside prison walls; and for his dark performance clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black." He traditionally started his concerts by saying, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." and usually following it up with his standard "Folsom Prison Blues."
Presented within this handsome display is a rare concert agreement, one page, 8” x 13”, Agency for the Performing Arts, Inc. letterhead, January 9, 1974. It is a contract for a total of eight appearances at the Houston Music Theater. Cash has signed at the conclusion, “Johnny Cash,” and has also added his initials, “JRC,” next to a clause in the main body. The signed document is accompanied by two other prominent pieces of memorabilia, including an original concert ticket to a 1978 Fort Worth, TX concert and a limited edition collectible figurine. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from industry leading third-party memorabilia authentication firm PSA/DNA.
