Description
The Saxello was manufactured by King/H.M White Company I believe from around 1924-1932. The serial number on this one is 711XX which puts it as one of the early examples from 1924 or 1925. I would describe this instrument as very good condition with great mechanics and pads that seal and are generally in very good condition. The neck cork needs to be replaced and perhaps a few pads. Also, the previous owner removed a vent key and had the tone hole plugged. A repair tech told me the vent key can sometimes leak and some players chose to block the key from opening to create a better seal. The original key is missing so for those of you who are collectors, please note this. The Saxello did not have a great reputation for tone quality and playing well in tune and this horn has some challenges as well. Specifically the low C and B are a bit stuffy. I was surprised to learn just how rare these instruments are. With the exception of the vent key that was removed, I consider this to be a very good example and desirable for a collector interested in saxophone history. The case appears to be original and in good condition. The mouthpiece does not have any markings that say King so I would assume it is not original. No ligature or cap.
