PANCHO & LEFTY:Platinum Award (original) from Epic Records
Framed HAND-SIGNED Promotional photo signed by Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson (Original signatures)
Pancho & Lefty was a blockbuster album recorded at Willie's Pedermales Recording Studio in Spicewood, TX in November, 1982. A "so-so" album was nearly complete but it needed a good solid lead song and it just wasn't there. Willie's daughter, Lana had heard a song written by famed Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt called Pancho & Lefty. She insisted dad- Willie listen. He loved it and recorded it with his band, but all agreed it needed a 2nd vocal. Merle was in his tour bus out back sound asleep (Asleep ? - yea, okay !!). Willie and Lana woke him up and he was not a happy camper, but they insisted he pull up his jeans and get into the studio and give the song a shot with Willie. The album, thanks to that lead song, dominated the year and helped establish both outlaws as two of the best-selling and most critically acclaimed of the genre.
POP KNEW MERLE (HIS BEST BEST FRIEND, AND WILLIE WELL. HE MADE ALL OF MERLE'S AWARDS (SEE PHOTOS) AND HOSTED MERLE'S PARTIES WHEN HE CAME TO NASHVILLE. This outstanding award is rare, few left.....ordered by EPIC from my dad, the legendary GOLD & PLATINUM awards maker on Music Row for 50 years, making tens of thousands of awards for every record label on "The Row" and in NY and LA, and even Apple in London for the Beatles and the Stones. He always made overstock for late orders and when he passed, I inherited more than 5,000 collectibles, including awards, signed photos, posters and other music treasures. I'm a retired CNN anchor and former White House reporter for NBC (Carter & Reagan). I do this as a labor or love as a retiree - by myself, and sell these rare collectibles way, way, way below market value just for fun and to keep busy. Read my feedback with more than 2,000 items sold since Pop passed at age 92 in 2016. Country was his big business, but I have rock, pop & jazz, and I add more listings often as I find them and clean them up, and sell off others. Stay with me and check in often. See more listings at:
