    A scarce 40 cent transcontinental rate shown on a staples cover from Sacramento City, Cal to Muscatine, Iowa.
    The transcontinental rate was in effect from 1848-1851.  This cover was probably mailed in 1851
    The cover has a few minor bumps and bruises from being about 170 years old,
    but is not frail and seems to be in fine-very fine condition.
