    Description

Genuine U.S. military issue "dog tag" chain set.     NEW condition, circa 1980s.     Made of shiny stainless steel beads, in original packages.     The longer chain is 24-inches and the short one is 5-inches long.    Made in USA.    Very durable.    My own set has lasted 50 years.    Of course, even the best of something can be broken if one is determined to break it.    These are the real deal, better quality than so many of the cheaper look-alike knock-offs being offered.
Regarding the purpose of the chains' use, Tommy Tentpeg, Charlie Bag 'o Donuts and all their fellow G.I.s are issued two personal identification tags, aka "dog tags."    The intent is for one tag to remain with the body of the wounded or deceased person while the other is turned over to the Company First Sergeant for personnel accountability.    One tag hangs from each chain.    The information stamped thereon consists of one's "name, rank and telephone number," as the old saying had it; actually, it contains one's full name, service number (now one's socialist security number since about 1969), religious preference and blood type.
If not wearing "dog tags," the chains can be used for many other things; hanging a couple of religious medals from them, for example, if one is so inclined.    Limited only to one's imagination.
Priced at .95 for two sets (four chains in two envelopes).    Some envelopes may have black magic marker scribble in upper right corner of the envelope.    If you are a collector and you want the envelope in unmarked pristine condition for your collection, please let me know.    Regardless, the quality of the chains themselves are unaffected.
Again, to be clear, for the listed price, the buyer receives two envelopes with one large and one small chain in each envelope.
