Just after taking country music by storm as one of the four "OUTLAWS" with the "Highwayman" release (Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings & Johnny Cash), ** Columbia was ecstatic with this new persona for Willie and his "outlaw gang." Then here comes Willie DEMANDING to cut an album with his favorite old songs he heard as a young man. Romantic songs: "Blue Skies," "Stardust," "Georgia on my Mind," and even the Righteous Brother's iconic heartbreak hit "Unchained Melody." The record label was furious and thought he had lost his mind. He held his ground and insisted. They caved in 78....he recorded, and ...Stardust went Platinum almost immediately, triple platinum in 84, and was certified QUINTUPLE PLATINUM (5,000,000) in 2002 (a lot more sales now), and inducted into the GRAMMY HALL OF FAME in 2015....rare for a "country" album. It is Willie's all time biggest seller.THIS AWARD WAS MADE BY MY DAD WHEN STARDUST WAS CERTIFIED BY RIAA AS A TRIPLE (3X) 3,000,000 sales award in 1984 and re-released in a new album jacket. The award was limited since a Platinum had already gone to radio stations in 1978, so this award was mainly given to record company execs and special radio & country music executives only.  My dad always "over-produced" his awards and upon his passing, I found numerous "extra" boxed up awards he had made over the years.
THIS - AS WITH ALL GOLD & PLATINUM AWARDS ORDERED BY THE RECORD LABEL COMPANIES - WERE NEVER SOLD TO THE PUBLIC OR MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC. ONLY MADE TO BE SENT TO THOSE WHO HELPED IN THE SUCCESS OF MAKING THE ALBUM A HIT.
A Certificate of Authenticity with a brief declaration of the above accompanies the award.   I only have a few of these available. When Willie is gone, this will be of extreme importance and value.
**  If you're interested in viewing the Highwayman Gold Record Award, Columbia had a special custom printed background for it and a 5 X 7 glossy photo SIGNED BY ALL 4 HIGHWAYMEN,  produced for the award.  A small photo is the last one in this set of photos, but a complete presentation is in the Davestraub47 listings along with other gold/platinum records found in my late father's awards workshop.
